Ola Michael has swiftly dismissed Stonebwoy’s assertion that he emerged as the winner of the 2019 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) and demanded Charterhouse to declare him as such.
During the recent episode of United Showbiz on UTV, where Ola frequently appears as a pundit, he expressed his opinion that the 2019 Artiste of the Year title, which remained undisclosed due to the altercation between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, should remain invalidated to preserve its historical significance.
Ola Michael argued that altering the history of the awards scheme would be unjust, as there are valuable lessons to be learned from the incident. He also acknowledged that it is within an artiste’s prerogative to boast and make claims, so he does not fault Stonebwoy for doing so.
However, Ola Michael reminded the Stonebowy who secured his 9th Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award at the 25th TGMAs that since Ebony had won the award the previous year, she should also be considered the rightful recipient of the 2019 Artiste of the Year title.
“I’m disappointed in Robert Klah and Charterhouse for saying they will consider Stonebwoy’s request.
“You can’t rob history, something happened in 2019. So we couldn’t announce the Artiste of the Year for 2019. If we change that, the lessons to be learnt will be erased. That year should be left blank for people to see and know why the title was retained and learn from it.”
“Every artiste has a bragging right, he can brag, and there’s no problem with that. But the point is that it is history, let’s keep it sacred, let’s keep it sacrosanct.”
“Every year, someone is crowned as Artiste of the Year. If someone was not crowned, then it is only fair that the person with the crown retains it.
“We couldn’t announce the Artiste of the Year for 2019. Since no one was announced to replace Ebony, she remained the Artiste of the Year for 2019,” he insisted.
