Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has revealed that he is no stranger to attention from a steady stream of admirers on social media.
The 65-year-old politician, who actively engages with his 22,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and 37,000 Facebook fans, admits that his DMs are often flooded with messages from women expressing romantic interest.
But as he jokingly puts it, “The heart is willing, but the body is not.”
In a candid interview with Kogi’s Corner on YouTube, the father of three shared that although he appreciates the attention, age has caught up with him. “I recently turned 65, and there are just certain functions I can no longer handle,” Kahiga confided, laughing at the realities of getting older.
Kahiga’s 65th birthday, which he celebrated last Wednesday, also marked a personal milestone, as his youngest child is now 23. He reflected on the passage of time, acknowledging that he is at a stage in life where he is no longer actively seeking romantic adventures.
“I am a realist,” he explained. “These girls often beg me to accept them, but I can’t. That would only bring trouble and poverty into my life.”
The veteran politician, with a long career that includes teaching and serving as the secretary of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) for the Mount Kenya branch, takes a pragmatic view of life and relationships.
“I’ve been through the grind,” he continued, speaking to the wisdom that comes with age. “Looking at things realistically is part of who I am. At my age, I’m focused on more important things, like my family and my responsibilities as governor.”
