Tensions are rising in Nsoatre following the brutal stabbing of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley, during a chaotic clash at Nana Kromansah Park.

The Nsoatre Traditional Council has now issued a stark warning: if the prime suspect is not in police custody by Friday, traditional rituals will be invoked.

The tragic incident unfolded during a matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko, escalating into violence between rival supporters. In its wake, the local chiefs have vowed to ensure justice is served, calling on law enforcement to act swiftly.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (5 February), Nana Hinney Marfo, Dabehene of the Nsoatre Traditional Council, condemned the act and emphasized the council’s unwavering stance.

“We are actively working with security forces to apprehend the suspect. But if he is not arrested by Friday, Nananom will enter the stool room and perform the necessary rites,” he declared.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect is believed to be from Berekum rather than Nsoatre. Local search efforts have intensified, with authorities confident that his capture is imminent.

Beyond seeking justice, the traditional leaders are also working to prevent long-term tensions between Nsoatre and Asanteman, an alliance that dates back to 1730.

The chiefs acknowledge the gravity of the situation and have already reached out to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the owner of Asante Kotoko, and the bereaved family to extend their condolences.

Meanwhile, the police are ramping up their efforts. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, revealed in a press briefing that two additional suspects—Isaac Ofosu and Yeboah Augustine—have been arrested, bringing the total number of detained individuals to five.

Law enforcement has assured the public that all those responsible for the violence will be tracked down and prosecuted. A statement released by the Ghana Police Service confirmed that intelligence-led operations are ongoing to capture any remaining perpetrators.
