NPP Withdraws from Media General Platforms

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its withdrawal from all Media General platforms, citing ongoing concerns over biased political coverage and unprofessionalism.

This decision, communicated through a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, comes after months of failed attempts to resolve issues with the media group.

The NPP’s dissatisfaction stems from what they describe as “unprintable attacks” on their party leaders, particularly former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In the statement, the party highlights an incident during a program hosted by Madam Keminni Amanor, where a regular guest made inflammatory remarks about the former president.

“Strangely, the host did not stop or object to the unwarranted attacks on the former president; she merely laughed them off,” the statement reads, emphasizing that the host allowed the attack without intervention.

The NPP’s frustration also revolves around what they see as biased paneling on programs such as Key Points and Newday.

These shows are reportedly criticized for regularly assembling panels of guests whose political alignments are heavily skewed toward the National Democratic Congress (NDC), leaving NPP representatives to defend their positions in an unbalanced environment.

Despite repeated calls for more equitable guest invitations, the NPP claims that their concerns were ignored, leaving them with no choice but to withdraw.

The statement further reassures their supporters, emphasizing that the decision to cut ties with Media General does not undermine the party’s commitment to its role as the largest opposition in Ghana.

“Our commitment to hold this already failing John Mahama Administration accountable will not be affected by this decision,” they affirmed, vowing to continue their political duties despite the withdrawal.
