In a new revelation in the aftermath of the 2024 elections, Freddie Blay, the former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has admitted that the party’s loss in the 2024 elections can largely be attributed to the frustration and anger of the Ghanaian populace.
Blay, speaking during an interview with KSS Media, stated that despite efforts from the NPP, the party failed to secure the support of many citizens due to the overwhelming challenges they faced in their everyday lives.
“I’m 80% convinced that there was no mismanagement,” Blay confessed. “So let’s admit it, it happened; people were not happy and it turns out it was because of the economy.”

For years, the NPP had been riding high on promises of growth, development, and prosperity, but the reality on the ground was starkly different.
Inflation, rising unemployment, and a weakening currency made life difficult for many Ghanaians, especially those from the lower and middle-income brackets.
Despite the NPP’s past achievements, the party’s inability to effectively address the mounting economic struggles led to a sense of betrayal among voters.
Blay reflected on how this anger manifested in the elections. “We were caught up in the jaws of difficulties,” he said. “A greater percentage of the Ghanaian populace ordinarily would have supported the NPP, but they were angry.”
