NPP Primaries: Akufo-Addo Flares Up After Journalists Asked Him About The Economy

Nana Akufo-Addo’s demeanor was far from pleasant as he encountered a barrage of inquiries from journalists regarding the state of the economy during his participation in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership elections on November 4, 2023.

Following the completion of his voting process, he found himself surrounded by a multitude of journalists and reporters representing various media organizations.

Among them, a journalist posed a query regarding his perception of his economic management. Feeling a sense of offense, the president swiftly responded by questioning the appropriateness of such a question in that particular setting, promptly departing from the scene.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed his belief that his success in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries is dependent on divine intervention.

Furthermore, the present Vice President of Ghana advised his supporters to remain composed and patiently await the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries. When questioned about his thoughts on the highly competitive primaries, the Vice President stated that it necessitates patience, adding, “But I pray I am the one.”

These remarks were made during a press conference following his participation in Saturday’s voting process. Given his extensive experience as the running mate to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the past four elections, Dr Bawumia is widely regarded as the frontrunner to lead the NPP in a crucial upcoming election.

However, he faces competition from Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, former Agriculture Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.

Despite the challenges posed by his opponents, all four candidates maintain an optimistic outlook regarding their chances of victory. Considering Dr Bawumia’s prominent role in leading the Super Delegates Conference on August 26, it is anticipated that he will emerge triumphant in the primaries and secure the position of NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
