NPP Opens Nominations For Flagbearer Aspirants At A Fee Of GH¢50,000

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared that candidates for the flagbearership contest will be required to pay fifty thousand Ghana cedis (50,000) as nomination fees.

According to a news release published on May 25, by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), prospective presidential candidates must pay a non-refundable fee of fifty thousand Ghana cedis in order to get the nomination papers for the party’s upcoming flagbearer elections.

The party will officially begin accepting nominations on Friday, May 26, with the deadline set for the following Saturday, June 24.

“Pursuant to the National Council timelines, the Party hereby announces, the opening of nomination for the presidential primary election. Nomination forms shall be obtained from the Office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters, Asylum Down, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (Monday to Friday).”

“Consequently, an Aspiring Presidential Candidate shall obtain the Nomination Forms after payment of a non-refundable nomination fee of Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢50, 000.00) only, through a Banker’s Draft issued to the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA as payee.” part of the statement reads.

The NPP’s demand for a registration fee is meant to make sure that only serious and committed candidates run for flagbearer.

So far, nine candidates have announced their candidatures for party administration. Among them are Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Trades and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai Nimo.

Joe Ghartey, a former member of parliament for Essikado-Ketan; Kwabena Agyepong, a former general secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku; and Boakye Agyarko, a former minister of energy, round out the group.
