Political analyst Dr Jonathan Asante Okyere has urged the party to take a page from the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) playbook after their 2016 defeat.
He believes adopting a comprehensive and inclusive approach to understanding their losses could pave the way for a political comeback.
Speaking on the subject during a recent discussion, Dr. Okyere highlighted the NDC’s methodical response to its defeat in 2016.
“While you may want to protect your political career by suggesting among the NPP that A, B, C, and D might have gone wrong, that is the more reason why they got defeated,” he remarked on Starr FM’s Starr Today.
He pointed to the establishment of the Professor Botchwey Committee by the NDC as a textbook example of how a political party should regroup and rebuild.
“They set up the Professor Botchwey Committee, which went around the entire nation, gathering information and data on the causes of their defeat.

By 2020, they managed to bounce back, creating one of the largest parliaments in history and achieving an unprecedented victory,” he noted.
The NDC’s strategy after 2016 was one of deep introspection and engagement with its grassroots.
By travelling across the country, the party gained firsthand insights into voter grievances and perceptions. This approach, Dr. Okyere suggested, was instrumental in their ability to regain significant ground in subsequent elections.
Comparing this to the NPP’s current situation, Dr. Okyere argued that the party risks repeating its mistakes if it fails to adopt a similar approach.
“The best way forward is to critically analyze their defeat through a structured, data-driven approach.
It’s not enough to have internal discussions or protect certain individuals within the party. They must engage the grassroots and listen to the concerns of their support base,” he advised.
