NPP Executive Sends Strong Warning To Sam George Over Bawumia Attack

Sam George, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, has received a caution regarding his recent attacks on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

It has been warned that these attacks indirectly target the Muslim community as a whole. Salim Bamba, the Ashanti Regional NASARA Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called out Sam George for his subtle attempts to belittle religion.

In response to a metro TV commentary by the legislator, where he referred to Vice President Dr. Bawumia as a religious prostitute due to his interactions with the Christian community, the NPP Executive believes that these comments were made out of ignorance and have the potential to incite religious intolerance among both Christians and Muslims, who have been living in harmony.

Salim Bamba who was a guest on the Ultimate Cup of Tea morning show program in Kumasi stressed “One of the things that keep this country is religious tolerance that has existed all this while. Sam George’s comments are unfortunate and came from a position of ignorance. Is he saying he does not have Muslims in his constituency? Can he tell me that he has not assisted Muslims in his community during Ramadan and other Islamic Festivals?”

“No wonder, some sane voices in his party have come out to criticize him. All must condemn this”, he demanded.

The NASARA leader, however, sent a warning to the MP, not to attack Dr. Bawumia again.

“You see, this is not an attack only on Dr Bawumia, it is an attack on all Muslims. If you attack Bawumia, you attack us all, we will not sit ideal for these things to go on. The NPP by electing Bawumia has fulfilled a constitutional provision that states we are all equal and that nobody should be discriminated against just as the directive principles of state policy states,” he added.

“We are all equal in this country, and the necessary respect ought to be given to everybody”, he advised.

Sam George recently sparked controversy with his remarks about Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, referring to him as a religious prostitute.

According to Sam George, the vice president seems to embrace both the Christian and Muslim faiths simultaneously, often attending both churches and mosques for political gain.

In Sam George’s opinion, someone who engages in such behavior cannot be fit to be the president of Ghana.

During an interview on Metro TV, the MP went on to describe Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a Muslim during the day and a Christian at night. Sam George further elaborated on instances where Dr Bawumia remained silent on matters that were of great importance to Muslims, such as the Hijab controversy and the killings of Muslim youth in Kumasi.

According to Sam George, a true Muslim would not openly acknowledge Jesus as their Lord and Savior or kneel before religious leaders for prayers. These actions, in Sam George’s view, do not align with the characteristics of a genuine Muslim, as Dr Bawumia claims to be.

“The best description you can give him is that, he is a Muslim by day and a Christian by night, a religious prostitute cannot be our president,” he said.

“We will take our time and scrutinise Bawumia for who he is. I will take him on on his so-called digitisation drive. We are talking about a man who you cannot vouch for. Do you know whether he is a Muslim?

“When the issue of the Hijabs came up in this country for Muslim girls, did you ever hear Dr Bawumia speak? When the issue of fasting for girls came up during Ramadan, he was silent. When the Muslim Zongo youth were killed in cold blood in Kumasi, Dr Bawumia was silent.

“No true Muslim anywhere in this world believes that Jesus Christ is our lord and saviour. No true Muslim kneels before a Catholic priest or a pastor to lay hands on them – only Bawumia. If you like, you can take the Suraj Mariama that talks about who Jesus is. They do not see Jesus Christ as their lord and personal saviour as we do,” he added.

He continued “Bawumia goes to a church, claiming that Jesus Christ is our Lord and personal saviour. He is not a proper Muslim.”
