The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has donated GH₵100,000 to help those who lost everything in the fire at the Kumasi Kejetia Market.

During an interview with GHone News, the Party Secretary, Justin Kodua, made the announcement that the New Patriotic Party has donated GH₵100,000 to the victims.

He claims that the heads of trade unions have informed the party’s national executives on the most pressing issues affecting the market. He also assured them that their complaints would be brought to the attention of the right people for resolution.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the facility to acquire more details about the fire and revealed that the fire started due to human error on March 20, 2021. In his address to the merchants, the Vice President told them that the government would help them get back into business.

However, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has said that the market, which was closed to the public for a week following the fire event, will reopen for commercial operations on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, and the fire started because a trader was using a gas cooker to prepare food inside one of the stores. Many businesses and assets worth thousands of cedis were destroyed by fire on the first and second levels of the Kajetia market last Wednesday.
