Non-Performing Schools To Close Down – Education Minister

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s minister of education, has issued a challenge to the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and the Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training TVET Institutions to improve their educational outcomes or face the possibility of having their schools shut down.

He elaborated on why schools with a persistently low passing rate (below ten percent) need to implement intervention programs to help their students succeed academically and avoid being a burden on their families and communities.

He said that by shutting down the schools, the country could stop losing so much money on them, and the children would be sent to other schools in the area so they could continue their education.

Dr. Adutwum made this announcement over the weekend in Kumasi, while speaking to the members of the Conference of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) and the principals of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.

This yearly gathering was meant to update them on the condition of education in the country, cover any new and upcoming developments in the field, and answer any questions they might have.

All SHS principals went on Saturday, and all principals of TVET schools in the country attended on Sunday, since the gathering was split into two sections.

He praised the principals for their contributions to the development of education in the country, promised to keep providing the necessary resources, and encouraged them to work extremely hard to achieve the desired outcomes.

Dr. Adutwum also advised the school directors against preventing first-year students from enrolling because some items on their prospectus had not yet been acquired.
