Ghanaian media personality Abena Moet has sparked conversations about gender roles in modern relationships, emphasizing the need for shared responsibilities in the home.
Speaking passionately on GHOne TV’s Toast Show, she rejected the notion that a woman should bear the full burden of domestic duties simply because of traditional gender expectations.
“I can’t go out there, work 12 or 15 hours, sit at a table of men, argue my point, or even close a business deal and make money, just to come back home to meet my husband on the couch watching TV, sitting, and waiting for me to cook just because you are the man. Nobody will do that,” she asserted.
She further highlighted the importance of mutual contribution in relationships, whether financially or physically, insisting that hard work should be acknowledged and reciprocated. “In every relationship, it’s a give and take.

“It’s either you are helping financially or physically. It is not easy to make money; you know how it is to make money. Imagine you wake up at 4 AM, go for a meeting from 5 AM to 12 PM… and come home to cook for you.”
Drawing an analogy from the Bible, Abena Moet reinforced her point, urging men to embrace domestic responsibilities as an act of leadership rather than a sign of weakness.
“When you are sweating on set, we all try to help you out, and that doesn’t make me less. So, if I go to work and come back to see you in the chair doing nothing… Jesus Christ was the head, yet he washed the feet of his disciples. To be able to lead, you must learn to serve.”
