The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has issued a statement urging the General Public to dismiss any rumours regarding the implementation of a cybersecurity levy on banking transactions.

Certain reports have claimed that Ghana’s banking system has been targeted by numerous cyber attacks both domestically and internationally.

To combat these threats, the Bank of Ghana was allegedly working tirelessly to introduce a levy that would deduct 1% from all transactions. However, the Bank of Ghana took to Twitter to denounce these reports as false and advised the public to ignore them.

Blogger Sika Official reiterated the information on his X platform, stating that the Bank of Ghana is considering the implementation of a 1% cybersecurity levy on all banking transactions to address the increasing cybersecurity risks both locally and globally.

Nevertheless, the Bank of Ghana promptly debunked the claims made by Sika by sharing a screenshot of the post and labelling it as false. The bank reassured the people of Ghana that no such levy would be introduced.

In response to heightened cybersecurity threats locally and globally, the Bank of Ghana reportedly plans to implement a 1% cybersecurity levy on all banking transactions.
