Okatakyie Afrifa has stirred public conversation with his blunt critique following the tragic accident involving the son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, an incident that claimed three lives.
While many within religious circles have rushed to explain the event as a spiritual attack, Afrifa’s perspective cuts through this common narrative, suggesting a more grounded explanation.
In his view, it is not the devil at work, but rather an outcome of what he describes as “bad parenting and irresponsible upbringing.” His words hit hard, challenging the usual religious defense offered when the children of spiritual leaders face personal crises.
Afrifa’s remarks recall a similar situation involving Archbishop Duncan Williams, whose son has struggled with substance abuse.

In that case, too, many were quick to attribute the issue to spiritual warfare, claiming that the devil was attacking the family because of the archbishop’s prominence in Christian ministry.
Afrifa rejects this explanation, pointing instead to the human responsibility that should be placed on the family. “This guy smokes weed, and instead of putting him in his place, Christians are of the view that it is the devil that is attacking his family because of the work he does,” Afrifa pointed out.
His comments challenge a long-standing tendency within religious communities to attribute such troubles to spiritual interference, rather than grappling with the real-life complexities of raising children.
Ultimately, Afrifa’s comments about the tragic incident involving Bishop Salifu Amoako’s son present an opportunity for introspection, both for religious leaders and their followers.
