Nigeria Police Sacks Two Officers For Demanding Money From Dutch Tourist

The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken swift action by ordering the immediate dismissal of two Special Constabularies employed with the state command. The officers, identified as Jimoh Lukman and Kareem Fatai, were caught on camera demanding money from a Dutch female biker tourist who was touring African countries.

The decision to dismiss the officers was announced by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, who expressed zero tolerance for corrupt practices within the Nigerian police. The incident gained public attention after a viral video showed the two officers soliciting a bribe from the Dutch tourist, who was riding a power bike from the Netherlands to Abuja.

Following their dismissal, the former constabularies, Lukman and Fatai, were paraded at the Oyo State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, the state capital. The Commissioner of Police clarified that the dismissal was based on the findings of an orderly investigation, emphasizing the embarrassment caused by such conduct.

In adherence to the Inspector General of Police’s commitment to eradicating corruption within the Nigerian police, Commissioner Hamzat reiterated that the dismissed constabularies would not face court prosecution, as they were not originally trained officers of the Nigerian police. The officers were stripped of their Nigerian Police uniforms to confirm their exit from constabulary service.
