Nicolas Cage’s son, Weston, was arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother during a mental health episode.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the 33-year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday for assault with a deadly weapon.
This incident occurred shortly after his mother, actress Christina Fulton, 57, was observed with bruises on her face.
Weston was released on a $15,000 bail on Wednesday morning, and according to The U.S. Sun, his famous father is said to have posted the bail.
A source also told the outlet: “The family knew this was going to happen but needless to say, it is a very big shock.”
A dispute erupted between Weston and his mother on April 28 in Los Angeles, prompting an ambulance to be summoned to the residence to assess Christina’s condition. However, she ultimately refused to be transported to the hospital.
Authorities have indicated that Weston had left the premises by the time law enforcement arrived, and they will determine whether the incident will be classified as felony battery.
Christina has refuted claims the two got into an argument and has asked for privacy in the matter.
She said in a statement released about the matter: “Weston and I had no argument prior to the incident.
“On Sunday April 28, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis.
“Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience.
“I have always supported helping my son with mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs.”
Weston was charged with domestic violence in 2011 following a disagreement with his former spouse Nikki Williams, as reported by ABC News.
He was placed under psychiatric care in 2011 after a violent altercation in Los Angeles. Christina and Nicolas began their relationship in 1988 and welcomed Weston in 1990, however, the couple parted ways shortly after their son’s birth without getting married.
