The Nigerian internet community has reacted strongly following Trinidian-American rapper Nicki Minaj’s tweet in Pidgin English.
While Nigerian Pidgin is widely spoken across the nation, it has yet to receive official recognition.
This form of communication effectively bridges gaps between various ethnic groups and is prevalent throughout Nigeria.
Nicki demonstrated her command of the language, prompting a netizen named Ty to question who was teaching the American rapper Pidgin English after noticing her engaging in several conversations using it.
In response to the tweet, Nicki promptly clarified that she comprehends everything being discussed in Pidgin English on her timeline.
She wrote: “Wetin be the confusion? I Dey have eyes o? I can read all the pidgin weh una pikin de put on my timeline every day. SUKS TEETH LOUDLY.”
The tweet rapidly gained traction among Nigerians, who enthusiastically responded in large numbers to support and interact with her.
Amid this excitement, Nicki Minaj returned to share additional thoughts, inspired by the new Nigerian name that someone had bestowed upon her.
