The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken swift action in the aftermath of a violent altercation within its ranks, suspending its Northern Regional Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Gbewaa.
The decision was reached during deliberations between national and regional executives in Accra.
Alhaji Gbewaa is alleged to have physically attacked Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the party’s Northern Regional Treasurer, during a heated disagreement over party finances at the regional secretariat over the weekend.
Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, revealed during an interview on Joy FM’s Midday News that Alhaji Gbewaa has been suspended for three months. Gbande clarified that the suspension is “pending investigations and all other processes that will enable the party to look into the issues properly for a final redress.”

The altercation left the Northern Regional Treasurer with injuries to her face, and tensions escalated during a crucial stakeholder meeting last weekend. Following the incident, Alhaji Gbewaa was arrested and later released on bail.
In response to the developments, his supporters, visibly upset, protested by locking up the regional party office. The internal divisions prompted NDC executives to convene an urgent meeting in Accra to address the matter, leading to the decision to suspend the Northern Regional Vice-Chairman.
