Celebrated actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has declared she is done with the title “Empress McBrown,” a moniker she has used for years.
This announcement comes in the wake of a public feud with gospel singer Gifty Osei, popularly known as Empress Gifty, over the origins of the title.
The disagreement between the two stars began when Gifty Osei claimed ownership of the name “Empress,” insisting in several interviews that she had been using it long before McBrown adopted it.
McBrown’s fans, however, have been vocal in defending her, crediting her with popularizing the term in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
The tension reached new heights recently when Gifty Osei cancelled a scheduled appearance on McBrown’s show, Onua Showtime, at the last minute.

The cancellation, which came without an explanation, fueled speculation of lingering bad blood between the two.
Addressing the controversy on her show, McBrown surprised fans by announcing her decision to relinquish the title.
“I’ve heard all the back and forth about the name ‘Empress.’ Honestly, I’ve carried that name for years with pride, but I’ve decided to let it go,” she stated. “From now on, just call me Nana Ama McBrown.
That’s my identity, and that’s what I stand for.”
