On Tuesday, President Akufo-Addo swore in four ministers and a deputy minister and tasked them with serving the Ghanaian people well in their new roles.

He emphasised that they had been appointed at a crucial moment in Ghana’s history and urged them to use it to their advantage by working to improve the lives of all Ghanaians.

Akufo-Addo thanked the appointees at a ceremony held in Accra’s Jubilee House and asked them to serve the best interests of the Ghanaian people. With his administration being in its last stretch, President Akufo-Addo assured the people of Ghana that “there is enough time to make a meaningful and major contribution to the growth of our nation.”

The ministers are Kobina Tahir Hammond (trade and industry), Bryan Acheampong (food and agriculture), and Stephen Asamoah Boateng (chieftaincy and religious affairs).

Other members of the cabinet include Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Stephen Amoah, Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, and Minister of State for the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development Osei Bonsu Amoah.

Speaking at the event, the president said, “Your various competencies, experience and talents make this distinctly possible,” he said and urged them to help ensure that the country got back to the years of high economic growth, which characterized the period before the outbreak of COVID-19 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“To this end, I remind you that the quality of integrity that would permeate your work is extremely important. You have to remember at all times the solemn commitment that we in the New Patriotic Party have made collectively and individually to serve the Ghanaian people honestly and competently.”

He continued, “We are called to these public appointments to provide public service and not to promote our personal gain… Your conduct, my conduct, our collective conduct in the Executive would determine the faith and fortunes of our party in these and succeeding decades.”
