Mzbel’s Biography

, Ghana Street Journal

Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, born December 26, 1979, also known as Mzbel, is a Hiplife musician from Ghana. For her Junior High School education, she attended the God Wisdom Preparatory school in James Town, as well as Korle Gonno 1 and Owusu Mills’ JHS in Mamprobi [a suburb of Accra.

Mzbel pursued secondary education at Abuakwa State College. She studied liberal arts with a concentration in economics, geography, and French. She subsequently applied to the Ghana Institute of Languages and received training to become a bilingual secretary.

Radio & TV

After completing a course at the GIL and working at Manifold Tutorial College, she was offered an internship with GBC Radio 1 to present the children’s programme “Mmofra Kyepem.” She moved from GBC Radio 1 to Groove FM [now Adom FM] as an intern and co-hosted a children-focused programme titled ‘Kids on Groove’.

Having previously worked for Groove FM, her desire for greater heights led her to TV3as a production assistant for one of the station’s youth centered programs known as Goldblast. She also served as the floor manager for the same show and as a production assistant for the “Talking Drum” programme.

In 2002, she had the opportunity to collaborate with Hush Hush Studios, a production company that had newly emerged on the scene. She would occasionally enter the studio while employed at Hush Hush, and while the technicians played their instruments, she would sing a song she had composed. She would typically sing these melodies to herself with no intention of pursuing a career in music. While working part-time at Hush Hush Studios, she secured a position as the only digital video editor at Mtro TV and as a producer for the weekend entertainment programme Smash TV.

Music Career

After departing Metro TV, she began working as a video editor and producer for Apex Advertising. She had to juggle Music and her job responsibilities at Apex, and when she found both to be too demanding, she chose to devote her entire attention to music.

In 2006, she dropped her first single “16 Years,” which was also her breakthrough song.

Over time, she has been criticised for her clothing choices, which have been called “sexy” and “sheer.” Mzbel believes, however, that as an artiste, you must have a distinctive appearance. She has always desired to be an inspiration for the underprivileged and to be able to assist the disadvantaged. 2She signed with Ginger Global Music Distribution in 2002.
