Ghanaian rapper Opanka has cleared the air about his two-year stay in the United States, revealing that it did not hinder his music career, as some had speculated.
In an interview with Sally Mann on Adom TV, the rapper explained that the decision to spend time abroad had nothing to do with his music taking a backseat.
“My two years living in the States had nothing to do with me putting my music career on hold,” Opanka said. He emphasized the power of social media and technology, which have revolutionized the music industry, allowing artists to connect with global audiences without leaving their home countries.
“You can travel out for shows and that’s why I travelled out,” he noted. The digital era has enabled musicians to share their craft worldwide—whether they are in Ghana or anywhere else.
He added, “You could be in Ghana and people outside Ghana will be hearing your music, you could equally be outside the country and people here will hear it.”

Opanka’s stay in the U.S. was initially meant to last only a month, as he was there for an award show and a concert. However, after the concert, an unexpected opportunity arose for him to pursue education in America.
He shared, “First of all, I went to America for an award show and a concert. The whole thing was supposed to take us a month. After the concert, I had the opportunity to go to school and I believe everyone knows that education is power.”
For Opanka, the chance to gain new knowledge was not something to pass up. He believes that the education he is acquiring will not only enrich his personal life but will also benefit his music career.
“The knowledge I will acquire from education, when I add it to my music, everything will be on a different level,” he said, stressing that his decision to continue his studies was strategic for his long-term growth as an artist.
