Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugbomma recently shared a candid and humorous account of his parenting journey while appearing on the Honest Brunch podcast, hosted by comedian Nedu Wazobia.
Advocating for a gentler approach to raising children, Bovi opened up about his experiences with his son, whom he affectionately referred to as “Chuchu,” and how he’s managed to navigate his destructive outbursts.
“I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be,” Bovi stated firmly, emphasizing his stance against corporal punishment. He went on to share a peculiar challenge he faces at home: his son’s habit of breaking televisions when upset.
“My son Chuchu dey break television for the fun of it. If he vex, he will throw stuff and break the television,” he explained, drawing laughter from the podcast hosts.

Despite the frustration such incidents might bring, Bovi noted that he has chosen to respond with understanding rather than discipline rooted in anger.
“It got to the age where he got to, and I saw the remorse,” he said, explaining how his son’s eventual regret for his actions reassures him of the effectiveness of his approach.
The comedian admitted that Chuchu has already broken three televisions in their home. However, with a touch of humour, he acknowledged his financial ability to replace the damaged items.
“Thank God for capacity. If I couldn’t afford another TV, then the approach would have been different,” he quipped, suggesting that his parenting philosophy might have faced challenges if finances were tighter.
