Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has strongly criticized the use of physical punishment on children and the entrenched seniority culture in schools, calling for more thoughtful and empathetic approaches to discipline and leadership.
Speaking on the Honest Brunch podcast with Nedu Wazobia, Bovi voiced his concerns about the damaging effects these practices have on children’s growth and well-being.
Bovi explained that he does not support corporal punishment, questioning the motives behind it. “I don’t advocate for beating children,” he remarked.

“You should let children be. When you hit a kid, are you really trying to correct them, or are you just frustrated?”
His candid take sheds light on the emotional impact of physical punishment, which he sees as more harmful than constructive.
The comedian also addressed the controversial practice of granting older students authority over younger ones in schools under the guise of seniority.
“No child should be given authority over another child in the name of ‘senior student.’ It really has to stop,” he declared.
He argued that such structures often lead to abuse and bullying, which can have long-lasting effects on younger students.
