Jennifer Austin has discussed her career on the most recent episode of VIBE’s Clothes Minded digital series, where she highlighted her skill in creating high-end fashion for prominent figures in the industry.
Jennifer kicked off the discussion by touching on a stunning purple and black gown that she designed for Danielle Brooks recently.
“Christian Siriano, this was a wildcard one because this walked the fine line of pushing the fashion envelope. Some people got it, and some people didn’t The people who got it understood the fashion moments that we were having.”
She continued, “I think that’s being a stylist, learning when to let the clothes speak.”
By dressing her clients, such as Angela Bassett, in lively and colourful outfits, Austin is successfully showcasing her unique “Nubian chic” style on the red carpet.

“My defining moment I think on a major level was the yellow beaded Naeem Khan that we wore for the first Black Panther,” she detailed. “That was the first time I really felt like my Nubian chic coined phrase moment happened.”
Jennifer Austin is also a creative director and has been showcased in various publications including Allure, Teen Vogue, Vogue Italia, and others. Among her notable clients are Jill Scott, Mel B, and Method Man.
Austin has previously revealed in an interview that her career as a stylist began after a life-changing realization following a serious car accident.
After recovering, she decided to volunteer at Los Angeles Fashion Week, a decision that ultimately led to her successful career.
Since 2013, she has exclusively styled Angela Bassett.
