More Probing Time Is Needed To Get The Best Out Of Nominees For Ministers – Sam George

Sam George, a member of parliament representing Ningo-Prampram, has argued that the Appointment Committee of Parliament needs additional time to investigate ministerial nominees who appear before it.

He thinks that this will help the Committee investigate new appointees to key positions in the government more thoroughly.

On Wednesday’s edition of the AM Show, the mp lamented the lack of time available for thorough investigation during parliamentary vettings, saying that this problem has been for as long as anyone can remember.

He said that this leaves Committee members with unanswered questions. The MP also said that the situation does not look good for the country, which is why the vetting process needs more time. The lawmaker also said that the quick processes need to be changed to be more like what works best in other places, where vetting takes a lot longer and is more thorough.

Sam George said these things in response to the fact that ministers are still being questioned in Parliament. The vetting of President Akufo-Addo’s latest nominees to fill key vacant ministerial posts has already taken place as part of the exercise, which officially began on Monday.

Kobina Tahir Hammond, who is going to be Minister of Trade and Industry, and Dr. Stephen Amoah, who will be his deputy, are two of the people who have met with the Appointment Committee so far.

Meanwhile, the Ningo-Prampram mp has called for Parliament to be more efficient in carrying out its responsibilities as a government board. Parliament is likely to keep going with the process today.

On the AM Show with Benjamin Akakpo, a politician from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remarked that despite Parliament’s role as a separate branch meant to hold the administration accountable, it is unable to do so in practice.
