A misunderstanding regarding the scheduled time for the vetting of Defence Minister-designate, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, led to an unexpected moment of tension during the proceedings on January 28.
Dr. Omane Boamah, who arrived later than expected, was initially rebuked by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
However, the situation was quickly resolved when Afenyo-Markin issued an unreserved apology for the miscommunication.
“Dr Omane Boamah, in the morning, I made certain comments with regards to the lateness. It seems there was a miscommunication about the time that was given to you. So I want to unreservedly say sorry to you,” Afenyo-Markin said, acknowledging the error.

The incident, though brief, highlighted the importance of clarity in communication during high-stakes events like ministerial vettings.
Dr. Omane Boamah graciously accepted the apology and proceeded with the vetting, which saw him address critical issues, including national security and his impartiality as a public servant.
This exchange reflects a broader culture of accountability within Parliament, where leaders are willing to take responsibility for misunderstandings.
It also sets a positive tone for collaborative engagements, especially during vettings where national interests take center stage.
