, Ghana Street Journal

Soldiers have allegedly been storming the Accra neighbourhood of Ashaiman since midnight, and residents claim they have been brutally attacked.

Several members of the military in Ashaiman have apparently taken the law into their own hands. They have been going house to house and brutalising the locals. MP for Ashaiman Ernest Norgbey told Accra’s Starr Radio that there is an “unofficial curfew” in effect.

This occured days after their colleague was allegedly stabbed to death in the neighbourhood by unidentified assailants. Several residents’ recordings of the incident went viral on social media. In several of these videos, military personnel can be seen assaulting and abusing individuals outside of their homes.

Those who don’t do what the military tells them to do are reportedly flogged and given other kinds of physical punishment.A young man can be heard getting flogged in the background, and in other images, locals are seen rolling around in the mud left by this morning’s rainfall. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have not yet issued a statement on the situation.
