According to a report by The New York Times, Mariah Carey lost both her mother and sister on the same day.
Mariah shared the heartbreaking news, revealing that her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, passed away over the weekend, although she did not disclose the reasons for their deaths. The circumstances surrounding their passing remain uncertain, including the specific timing of their deaths.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Ms. Carey said in a statement. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Ms. Carey said that she had been able to spend the last week with her mother, adding, “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Patricia Carey, formerly married to Alfred Roy Carey, was an accomplished opera singer and vocal coach trained at Juilliard.
Together, she and Mr Carey, who had Venezuelan and Black heritage, welcomed two daughters, Alison and Mariah, as well as a son, Morgan Carey. Alfred Roy Carey passed away in 2002.
Throughout her life, Ms. Carey, now 55, has shared her experiences growing up as a biracial child on Long Island, detailing these challenges in her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”
She dedicated this work to her twins, Monroe and Moroccan Cannon, along with her mother.
