President John Dramani Mahama, during his tour of the Ashanti Region following his return to office, addressed the concerns raised about the region’s development.

Speaking to the Asantehene, he acknowledged the challenges facing the region and emphasized its pivotal role in national growth.

“Your Majesty, lately I have heard you express concerns about the lack of development in the Ashanti Region—and rightly so,” Mahama began.

“As you have pointed out, the Ashanti Region is the second most populous region in Ghana, and Kumasi is the second largest city.

2In any country, the second largest city is developed almost on par with the first because it serves a critical function in times of crisis, invasion, or war. It provides a fallback point for government operations to safeguard the nation.”

The President affirmed his agreement with these sentiments and expressed his commitment to addressing them.

“I completely agree with you that the development of Kumasi as the second largest city must be taken seriously,” Mahama stated.

“I pledge to work closely with you to ensure that this vision is realized.”
