American actress and comedian Erica Ash, recognised for her appearances on the satirical reality series “Real Husbands of Hollywood” and the sketch comedy program “Mad TV,” passed away in Los Angeles on Sunday at the age of 46.
The cause of death was cancer, as confirmed by her mother, Diann Ash, in a statement released on Monday.
Ms Ash kickstarted her career in the early 2000s as a member of the cast on sketch comedy shows such as “The Big Gay Sketch Show” and “Mad TV,” where she showcased her talent in impersonating famous personalities like Michelle Obama and Condoleezza Rice.
Throughout her career, she appeared in numerous television shows and movies, including “Scary Movie V.”
She also secured a recurring role on BET’s “The Real Husbands of Hollywood,” a satirical take on reality TV programs featuring Kevin Hart.
Erica Chantal Ash, born on September 19, 1977, in Florida, is known for her role as the main character’s sister in Starz’s “Survivor’s Remorse.” She also appeared in the Netflix horror-comedy film, “We Have a Ghost.”
After attending Emory University as a pre-medicine student, she transitioned to a career in comedy and entertainment, as mentioned in a 2018 interview with Steve Harvey where she discussed her experience as a backup singer for a Japanese band after taking a break from studying medicine.
