The tragic case of Lucy Wambui, who passed away following a liposuction procedure, has raised serious concerns about the safety and monitoring of cosmetic surgeries.
Wambui, a 45-year-old woman and the wife of prominent businessman Francis Ng’ang’a died on October 26, 2024, after experiencing complications from the procedure performed at the Body By Design clinic.
Influencer Amira was among the first to announce her untimely death on social media.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Wambui’s body, alongside two other pathologists, on Thursday.

The findings revealed that she experienced significant chest pains and breathing difficulties just two days after undergoing the abdominal liposuction.
Although she was initially discharged from the hospital, her condition worsened later that same day, leading to her hospitalization at Nairobi Hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The autopsy confirmed signs consistent with liposuction and identified cardiorespiratory failure as the official cause of death.
Dr. Ndegwa, one of the pathologists involved in the post-mortem, stated, “The circumstances of this death need to be investigated to establish at whatever place and time the alleged perforations (if any) of the bowels happened.”
