Ghanaian lawyer, Lawrence Ampaw has criticised New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Kennedy Agyapong for making threats to collapse the party.
He argues that Kennedy Agyapong has no authority to take such a step against the party under the constitution.
This comes after Kennedy Agyapong stated that if the government tries to destroy his businesses, he will expose secrets that will bring down the NPP in an interview with Sompa FM on March 10.
“You are going there because Kwame Agyapong is a loudmouth.” You want to collapse my companies because I want to contest. I’m being nice and charitable to the NPP, but they shouldn’t dare me. “If somebody attempts to destroy my companies because I’m running for office, I will collapse the party.”
“The things I will say and the things i know that I have kept quiet.” I’ve gone through a lot from January to date, and NPP should listen to me very carefully. I’ve been nice. If you want to collapse my company because of one person, then I will also collapse NPP. “I’m not afraid of anyone,” he rants.
Maurice Ampaw advised Kennedy Agyapong on Wontumi TV on March 13, 2023, to study the law so that he wouldn’t expose his ignorance to Ghanaians.
“NPP is nobody’s property, Kennedy Agyapong listen to me, NPP is not for you. How dare you? That you will collapse the party… don’t let me come directly at you, you dare not.
“You cannot… it is the party members who are afraid of you. NPP party is a public entity, I’m teaching you law today. NPP party is a political party and in law, a political party is a public institution, it is not owned.. NPP is not owned by one person. All Ghanaians care about what is going on in the NPP, and the same with the NDC. This is why I can talk about the NDC: both political parties win power to run the country through their activities. he said.
“So, Ghanaians have an interest, and that’s why I can talk about the NDC. No matter what happens in the NDC, they will win power one day. So, if we don’t have a say in what happens in the NDC, our resources will be run by bad leaders.That’s why I told Kennedy Agyapong to know the law and go study it, because you can’t collapse the NPP party.”
In addition, he challenged Kennedy Agyapong to reveal whatever incriminating information he had against the party. “Whatever secret you have, come and say it. You’re loud, Kennedy Agyapong, so use that to scare the foot soldiers. And those who are following Kennedy Agyapong because they think he is their saviour, he can’t come and save anyone. He is a populist.” he added.
Ampaw advised Agyapong to pay attention to other aspirants and learn from them “ Look at the other people running for president, like Alan Kyerematen and Bawumia. They are working, but Kennedy is just making noise. For you, every day you’re accusing Nana Addo, what at all has Nana Addo done to you?” he asked.
