Lady Gaga is opening up about the emotional weight of fame and how it once caused her to lose her sense of self. Speaking on The Howard Stern Show, she discussed the meaning behind her latest song, “Perfect Celebrity”, which reflects her complicated relationship with the spotlight.
“I think in a way, when I was writing, I was feeling like there was the real me and there was the clone me,” Gaga admitted. She described the song as “one of the more angry songs I’ve ever written,” revealing that it serves as a form of self-retaliation as she processes her emotions.
The pop star also spoke about the “horror” of fame, explaining that she once prioritized public perception over her true self. “There’s a high I used to get from being in the public eye all the time, and it kind of, like, burnt me out,” she shared.
In “Perfect Celebrity”, she paints a haunting picture of life under constant scrutiny, singing, “I’m made of plastic like a human doll / You push and pull me, I don’t hurt at all.” The lyrics illustrate the pressure to please others while losing personal identity in the process.
Now, Gaga says she has found peace in stepping away from the constant attention. “It actually feels really nice to have things not be about me all the time. I enjoy supporting the people I love,” she reflected.
Her raw honesty in “Perfect Celebrity” offers a rare glimpse into the darker side of stardom, making it one of her most personal songs yet.
