Kwesi Pratt Criticises President Akufo-Addo For Having More Appointees Than Any Government In Ghana’s History

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jr. has weighed in on the debate about the number of government employees working at the Jubilee House.

In accordance with Section 11 of the Presidential Office Act, 193 (Act 463), President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has presented a report to Parliament detailing the staffing profile of the President’s Office from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022.

The report focuses on three main topics: the Presidential Staff working in the Office of the President during the period in question, the levels and grades of this personnel, and employees of other public services allocated to the Office of the President.

In addition to the forty-four (44) senior presidential staffers, there were two (2) ministers of state present during the reporting period.

Three hundred and fifteen (315) additional political appointees worked in the President’s Office, bringing the total number of political appointees to 361.

Only 163 of the 361 political appointees in the Office of the President are actually based at Jubilee House; the rest work remotely or in other branches of government.

During an appearance on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo,” commentator Kwesi Pratt was worried about how many presidential employees in the Akufo-Addo administration talked about how the government fought against the Mahama government over the same issue when it was in opposition.

Mr. Pratt wondered about the necessity of so many people being present at the President’s Jubilee House.

“This government, which is led by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has more appointees than any other government in Ghana’s history.” he said
