A photo of Nigerian artist Zlatan Ibile with a tattoo of Ghana’s first president inked on his body has gone viral on Ghanaian social media following recent remarks by Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, known affectionately as NAPO, sparked controversy when he claimed in a speech that his government, led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has outperformed all previous administrations in Ghana’s history.
Referring to the first President of Ghana as “that your Kwame Nkrumah,” NAPO’s statement was heavily criticised by Ghanaians around the world.
Amid the uproar, many Ghanaians took the opportunity to praise Nkrumah’s accomplishments, highlighting his legacy as Ghana’s first president and visionary whose ideas influenced millions worldwide.
On social media, images of places and statues dedicated to Nkrumah in other countries were shared to emphasize his lasting impact, leaving NAPO and his supporters at a loss in their criticism.
As a result, a tattoo of Nkrumah on Zlatan Ibile’s body has gained traction, underscoring the enduring influence Nkrumah has had on people long after his passing.
Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to independence from European colonial rule in 1957, becoming the first black African to do so in Sub-Saharan Africa.
He played a key role in the formation of the Organisation for African Unity in 1963, advocating for independence and unity among African nations.
After being overthrown in 1966, he sought refuge in Guinea and continued to be involved in African politics until he died in 1972. N
krumah, also known as ‘Osagyefo’, was a prolific author, shared his vision for a united and independent Africa.
