Kwame Gyan writes- We Cannot Allow Privilege to Shield Recklessness

The recent car accident involving Elrod Amoako, son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, has ignited outrage and sorrow across Ghana.

This incident, which tragically claimed the lives of two young girls, raises serious questions about responsibility, the privileges associated with wealth, and the consequences of reckless behaviour on the road.

At just 16 years old, Elrod was behind the wheel when the devastating crash occurred. By Ghanaian law, he should not have been driving, as he is below the legal age to obtain a driver’s license.

Eyewitness accounts and video evidence reveal a disturbing trend: Elrod and his friends reportedly treated public roads as their racetracks, often driving at dangerously high speeds.

Witnesses have claimed that he was speeding between 160 km/h and 190 km/h in a residential area like East Legon, where pedestrians and other vehicles pose significant risks.

The situation is further complicated by Bishop Salifu Amoako’s controversial remarks during a recent trip to the United States, where he suggested that he enjoys a unique status that allows him to drive without license plates in Ghana.

Elrod, who was present during his father’s comments, likely felt emboldened to defy the rules, reflecting a broader culture of entitlement among the wealthy.

This attitude is evident in Elrod’s reckless actions, as he reportedly drove his father’s luxury vehicles despite being underage and unlicensed.

The crash left two young girls dead, prompting public outcry and calls for accountability. Many are left grappling with the harsh reality of the situation: while Elrod receives medical treatment, the families of the victims are left mourning their losses.

To this end, media personality, Kwmae Gyan lamented, “That silly boy is alive and receiving excellent treatment while the two poor girls… let me not complete this thought. Too much grief already.”

Here’s his full statement;

As you go to bed remember this:

1. Salifu Amoako’s son is 16 years. Per our laws, he had no business driving a car.

2. There are enough videos filmed by him and his idiotic friends that show that he frequently uses our roads as an F1 circuit.

3. That speed he was driving at, couldn’t be anything lower than 160km/h. In fact, some even say 190km/h may not be an exaggeration. And he did that speed at EAST LEGON on a weekend! Let that sink in.

4. He was there when his Dad foolishly professed in the US that in Ghana, he drives cars without number plates.

5. At the same venue, he also said that despite driving cars without number plates, our Police salute him and call him General. His son was there when he said these.

6. Very safe to assume that he’s known his son drives his cars despite the fact that he is under aged and shouldn’t be driving.

7. That silly boy is alive and receiving excellent treatment while the two poor girls whose bodies….let me not complete this thought. Too much grief already.

8. The ‘man of god’ knows too well that he has a recalcitrant son if all the tales of him having been dismissed from at least 2 schools are to be believed.

I pray we sustain this level of anger until TRUE justice prevails.

PS:

I do pray that we don’t see a repeat of the Lil Win case…and please don’t tell me it is in court…please!!!!!!
