The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the tragic death of Joana Deladem Yabani, revealing new evidence that could aid in the prosecution of the suspect.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Registrar on February 28, 2025, the Police and University Security Services successfully retrieved Joana’s laptop and mobile phone, which had been hidden behind the Flint Hostel.
The discovery was made possible through CCTV footage from the hostel’s security surveillance system.
Speaking on the progress of the case, the Deputy Registrar of KNUST, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, assured the public of the institution’s commitment to justice and campus safety.
“The suspect in custody was arraigned before the Circuit Court at Asafo today. The court has remanded the suspect into custody, with the next hearing scheduled for March 17, 2025,” the statement disclosed.

The Ghana Police Service and KNUST authorities have pledged to work tirelessly to ensure justice is served, urging students, staff, and the public to remain calm as the legal process unfolds.
Dr. Bekoe also highlighted the University’s efforts to enhance security, stating:
“The University continues to prioritize the safety and security of its students and is taking further steps to enhance surveillance measures within and around campus.”
He further extended gratitude to security personnel and law enforcement agencies for their swift action and assured that KNUST would cooperate fully with the authorities.
Concluding the statement, the University extended condolences to Joana Deladem Yabani’s family and loved ones, acknowledging the difficult time they are facing.
