Renowned American gospel musician Kirk Franklin has disclosed for the first time the reasons behind his decision to sever ties with his biological mother.

During an appearance on the ‘Funky Friday’ podcast, the multiple Grammy award-winning artist shared that he stopped communicating with his mother after she neglected her responsibilities as a parent following her divorce from their father and her subsequent relationship with another man.

Franklin elaborated that he took on the role of primary support for his sister after her release from prison, assisting her with housing and other necessities as she battled drug addiction.

According to him, he felt that the emphasis should be on his sister’s situation, but his mother’s new husband confronted him about not maintaining contact with her.

This confrontation escalated into a dispute, prompting Franklin’s mother to leave with her new partner, which left him feeling profoundly hurt, as he perceived her choice as prioritizing her new relationship over her children.

As a result of this conflict, Franklin felt compelled to cut ties with his mother, expressing that her priorities seemed to lie more with her new husband than with her own children.

Kirk Franklin is a famous American gospel artist, known for his roles as a singer, choir director, record producer, and rapper.

He has gained widespread recognition for his leadership of urban contemporary gospel and Christian R&B groups, including The Family, God’s Property, and One Nation Crew (1NC).

With an impressive collection of 20 Grammy Awards, Franklin has earned significant acclaim in the music industry.

Variety has referred to him as the “Reigning King of Urban Gospel,” and he is also among the first inductees into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame.
