King Charles acknowledged that he has “lost his sense of taste” during his cancer treatment, as he shared a heartbreaking health update today.
The 75-year-old monarch had a conversation with British Army veteran Aaron Mapplebeck during his visit to the Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop, Hampshire.
Mapplebeck, who underwent chemotherapy last year for testicular cancer, mentioned that he had also lost his sense of taste. Surprisingly, the King revealed that he had experienced the same.
Buckingham Palace has not yet disclosed the specifics of the King’s treatment, as royal officials have only confirmed that he is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. Charles arrived at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop, Hampshire today via helicopter for a special ceremony with Prince William.
During the event, he officially handed over command of Prince Harry’s former regiment and bestowed the esteemed position of Colonel-in-Chief of The Army Air Corps to his heir.
Prince William will now represent the Army’s airborne wing, which includes his brother’s former unit, 662 Squadron. It was widely expected that Harry would have assumed this role, given his previous service as an Apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan.
However, he decided to step back from royal life in 2020. This rare joint engagement for Charles and William coincided with Harry’s return from his tour in Nigeria with his wife, Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are anticipated to arrive at London Heathrow today before heading back to their £12million Montecito mansion in Los Angeles.
Last Tuesday, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles would officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to William at the Army Aviation Centre, where Harry had previously trained as a pilot.
