Kennedy Agyapong Is The One We Should Be Scared Of Not Alan – NAPO To NPP

Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that the New Patriotic Party remains the only political party with a proven track record for the development of Ghana.

Addressing some youth of the party at a recent conference held in Kumasi, the Minister for Energy said the party has nothing to fear when it comes to the breakaway of Alan Kyerematen, former flagbearer hopeful of the NPP, and his formation of a new political movement dubbed Movement for Change.

Speaking about dedicating oneself to the party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh said the one person who needs to be feared is former flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who, against all odds, has decided to remain a member of the NPP.

“If there’s someone we should fear, that should be Kennedy Agyapong. He is the one for whom, out of every 10 people who voted, some 3.5 voted for him. Even with him in less than a week, he emphatically stated that he won’t leave NPP today or tomorrow. That’s a true NPP person,” he stated.

On Alan and his Movement for Change, which has adopted a butterfly as its symbol, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said the NPP has nothing to fear about the butterfly, which he described as beautiful but weak.

“We don’t govern a nation with beauty. There is no animal more beautiful than the butterfly, but because it can’t govern, it dies after just two days,” he stated.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s name has come up in the list of possible candidates to pair Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

Dr. Bawumia emerged as the winner of the NPP flagbearership, beating Kennedy Agyapong, who polled over 30% of the total votes as against his 61%.

Ahead of the NPP presidential primary in November this year, Alan Kyerematen, who had been a serial contender, announced his withdrawal from the race and his resignation from the party.

He cited attempts by the leadership of the party and the government to skew the race in favour of Dr. Bawumia as the basis for his resignation and subsequently announced his decision to contest the presidency as an independent candidate.
