Mwirichia received training in online LGBTQI activism through the Astraea Commslab. Graphic and web design courses at the Institute of Advanced Technology and Nairobi Institute of Business Studies comprised her formal art education.

“In Nairobi, Kenya, there are two different art scenes,” artist and activist Kawiria Mwirichia explained. “There is the so-called Masai market, which is based on traditional crafts and tribal customs, and there is the contemporary art scene, which consists of ‘people experimenting with alternative forms of expression. As she used traditional textiles to create contemporary art, To Revolutionary Type Love establishes a dialogue between these two creative realms.
