Junior Pope’s Death Not ‘Special’- Actor Ugezu

Amid the widespread tributes pouring in for the late Junior Pope, the entertainment industry has been captivated by the discourse surrounding his death.

Notably, filmmaker and actor Ugezu Ugezu has offered his perspective on the matter.

Departing from the prevailing sentiment, Ugezu asserts that there is nothing particularly extraordinary about Pope’s passing, despite concerns from fans that Nollywood is facing a crisis following the deaths of five actors this year.

Within the first quarter of 2024, notable figures such as Mr Ibu, Amaechi Muonagor, Sisi Quadri, Adejumoke Aderounmu, and the most recent addition, Junior Pope, have all tragically passed away.

Ugezu took to his Instagram page to share his reaction, emphasizing that this is not a catastrophe exclusive to Nollywood. He explains that individuals from various professions also succumb to death every week.

Ugezu highlights the disparity lies in the fact that the deaths of movie stars receive significant publicity, while deaths in other fields may not garner the same attention. He underscores that the surge in deaths within the country is a result of the “systematic destruction of the health sector.”

Ugezu wrote, “If only you knew how many bankers who kpai every week…if only you knew how many police officers who kpai every month…if only you knew how many pastors/priests who kpai every month…if only we have a clear data on citizens that kpai monthly, we may settle down and understand the systematic destruction of the health sector.

“Entertainers are domiciled publicly and theirs go viral always. Time has come to expunge spiritualism from clear system failure. It is not just a Nollywood disaster like many allude.

“It is a general system disaster.”
