Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, MP for the Juaboso Constituency in the Western North Region was involved in a life-threatening accident on the Nyinahin-Kumasi route in the Ashanti Region.
According to a graphiconline report, the MP, who is also the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, was driving back from a funeral in his area when his government car crashed head-on with a Sprinter bus heading towards Kumasi from the direction of the township of Atwima Mponua.
The incident took place on a Saturday evening around 6:05 p.m. When the MP’s driver tried to overtake another car, the passenger-side front tire of the MP’s car exploded.
The car swerved into the path of the incoming bus and crashed into it. Both vehicles, a GN 441-14 registered to an NDC MP and an AS 7363-18 registered Sprinter, were severely damaged in the collision.
An executive member of the constituency, Moses Danso, confirmed the news to the Daily Graphic and explained that the MP and his entourage had been injured in the accident and were being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the Nyinahin Government Hospital. A witness claimed that the victims were improving under medical care.
After being contacted, Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah claimed he heard of the accident shortly after it occurred and assured everyone that everything was under control.
