In a surprising turn of events, “Joker: Folie à Deux” has received a “D” CinemaScore, marking the lowest grade ever given to a comic book movie by the audience polling service.
This sequel to the critically acclaimed 2019 film “Joker” has not resonated well with audiences, leading to a significant drop in its reception compared to its predecessor.
The original “Joker” film, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, was a massive success, earning over $1 billion worldwide and receiving a “B+” CinemaScore.

However, the sequel, which also stars Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, has failed to capture the same level of acclaim. The film’s reception has been notably poor, with critics and audiences alike expressing disappointment.
The “D” CinemaScore places “Joker: Folie à Deux” below other poorly received comic book movies such as the 2015 “Fantastic Four” reboot, which earned a “C-“. This low score is a significant setback for the film, which had high expectations following the success of the first installment.
Despite its ambitious approach, including musical elements and a deeper exploration of the Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship, the film has not managed to win over its audience. The negative reception is likely to impact its box office performance, with projections already showing a disappointing opening weekend.
“Joker: Folie à Deux,” which opened in theaters Friday, earned $20 million on its opening day. Heading into the weekend, “Joker 2” was expected to make $50 million to $65 million in its box office debut, but now, the Warner Bros. film will likely open below those projections.
