Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa has clarified the commission’s absence from President John Dramani Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony, stating that it is not standard practice for EC officials to attend such events unless they receive a formal invitation.

Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on February 26 to review the 2024 general elections, she explained, “I was in the country, but as a policy, the chairperson, deputies, and other commission members do not attend swearing-in ceremonies unless officially invited. We did not receive any invitation.”

Mensa further emphasized that throughout her tenure, the commission has never been invited to any presidential or ministerial swearing-in ceremonies.

“I know dignitaries and special guests are usually invited, but for as long as we have been in office, the commission has never attended any swearing-in ceremony.”
