Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has officially announced John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the president-elect following the 2024 general elections.
The election, held on Saturday, December 7, saw a decisive victory for the former president, Mahama, who garnered 6,328,397 votes, amounting to 56.55%.
His closest competitor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%.
Jean Mensa, who also serves as the returning officer, clarified that the results were based on the votes from 267 constituencies, with results still pending from nine constituencies due to outstanding issues.
However, she emphasized that even if the remaining results, totalling just over 947,000 votes, were factored in, the final outcome would not alter Mahama’s victory.
