Constitution Day, which is annually observed on January 7 will be celebrated as a public holiday on Monday, January 8, 2024, the Ministry of the Interior has announced.

The declaration was announced through a statement released by The Ministry for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, on January 2, 2024. According to the statement, the decision to move the statutory holiday to a weekday is in accordance with the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601).

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, issued an Executive Instrument (E.I.) to formalise the declaration of Monday, January 8, 2024, as an additional public holiday to ensure that the significance of Constitutional Day is duly recognised and celebrated.

The Ministry of the Interior emphasised that the purpose of this additional holiday is to enable citizens to commemorate Constitutional Day with the respect and attention it deserves. As a result, people across the country are encouraged to take advantage of the holiday to reflect on the nation’s constitution, its historical significance, and the values it upholds. This gesture ensures that the spirit of Constitution Day is preserved, fostering a sense of national unity and civic pride.
