Ghanaian gospel musician and television host, Empress Gifty, has boldly declared her exclusive right to the title “Empress,” asserting that her name has been officially gazetted.
Speaking on her UTV show, Gifty warned that any attempt by others to use the title amounts to fraud.
“This is not just a nickname; it’s legal,” she said. “I have been gazetted as Empress Gifty. If anyone else claims the title, they are engaging in fraudulent behaviour.”
Her announcement comes on the heels of actress Nana Ama McBrown’s decision to drop the “Empress” moniker in favour of “Her Excellency,” signalling a deliberate rebranding effort.
McBrown’s move appears to have avoided a potential clash between the two prominent figures, though it has stirred conversation among fans and observers.

Reactions to the announcements have been mixed. While many commend both women for taking steps to solidify their personal brands, others see the situation as unnecessary.
Critics have labeled it as trivial, questioning the need for legal ownership of a title in an industry where influence and talent often speak louder than labels.
Social media platforms have been abuzz with opinions. “This is just a distraction,” remarked one Twitter user. “These women are too successful to be caught up in title debates.”
Another user, however, defended the move, saying, “Branding is important. It’s good to see them taking control of how they are perceived.”
