Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy has reiterated his commitment to advocacy and change in a fresh post shared on his X platform.
Speaking out on social media, he referenced his song “Greedy Men,” released two years ago, highlighting its enduring relevance in light of recent events surrounding the arrest of protesters in Ghana.
“Been burning the torch on these pressing issues,” Stonebwoy declared, indicating that he has consistently used his platform to address societal concerns.
The calls for him to join the Free The Citizens movement gained momentum after the police’s crackdown on peaceful demonstrators, demanding action against illegal mining activities, known locally as galamsey.
These protests have sparked nationwide discussions about governance, accountability, and the urgent need for reform.
Stonebwoy’s mention of “Greedy Men” underscores the message within the song, which critiques the actions of leaders and the impact of greed on society.
The lyrics serve as a mirror reflecting the frustrations and aspirations of many Ghanaians who feel disenfranchised by the current political landscape.
His music has always been more than just entertainment; it is a call to consciousness, urging listeners to engage with the issues that affect their lives.
Stonebwoy made the statement days after he faced backlash from fans after releasing a new music video amidst ongoing protests and the harsh treatment of demonstrators by police in Ghana.
The Afro-dancehall star, known for his international acclaim, took to social media to launch his new music video Jejereje, but many fans were quick to express their disappointment, accusing him of being out of touch with the struggles of everyday Ghanaians.
One frustrated fan posted, “Meet Livingstone Etse Satekla aka Stonebwoy who writes a whole thread cos he wasn’t recognized in a Grammy article but is insensitive to the suffering of the people who made him who he’s today by selfishly launching his music video while his people are being brutalized by the police.”
This comment reflected the widespread sentiment that Stonebwoy, by focusing on promoting his work, appeared to neglect the serious issues unfolding in the country.
